Jerry DeWitt, a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ankeny, Iowa, and director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, told Episcopal Life that if Iowans really ate “five [fruits or vegetables] a day” and produced at least 25 percent of those in Iowa, the state would grow by 3,800 jobs and $300 million in agricultural income.
He suggested congregations begin conversations about food and health—including hunger, obesity and diabetes.
