Two years of rising food prices mean that 100 million more people live in poverty and 75 million more go to bed hungry, said David H. Beckmann, an ELCA pastor and Bread for the World president.
He asked the new Congress and President-elect Barack Obama’s administration to make U.S. foreign assistance more effective in fighting hunger and poverty.
