By the end of 2008 four dioceses had severed ties with the Episcopal Church over opposition to the U.S. denomination’s stance on sexual and social issues.
Opposition includes the 2003 consecration of V. Gene Robinson, who is involved in a same-sex relationship, as bishop of the New Hampshire diocese.
In 2008 dioceses in Fort Worth, Texas; Quincy, Ill.; and Pittsburgh seceded to realign with a more conservative Anglican province in Argentina.
The diocese of San Joaquin, Calif., seceded in December 2007.
