In an Oct. 13 statement, the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka condemned both the plan of “the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam [to] carve out a Tamil homeland, and the government push to establish the total subjugation of the rebels.”
The council said the country’s social dynamics and geopolitical realities “will never allow the fulfillment of either of these goals.” Currently, they wrote, “main hospitals are crowded with war wounded.”
