Total income to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in the first six months of 1996 is up $864,000 to $37.3 million, largely because $2.8 million has been received from bequests and trusts, said ELCA treasurer Richard McAuliffe. Receipts from congregations through synods total $29.3 million, up $30,000 over the same period last year. Expenses of churchwide units are running $2.1 million under the 1996 budget. ELCA income has exceeded expenses for the past five years. Giving to the World Hunger Appeal totals $3.8 million, down $52,000 from last year.
