Freed to Lead

As part of its “Economic Challenges Initiative,” Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded a $741,000 grant to the Indiana-Kentucky Synod.

The grant includes $570,000 to be used as matching seed money over a four-year period to directly assist rostered leaders with theological education debt, pension equity or special circumstances that create undue financial burden.

The grant called for the establishment of a Freed to Lead Fund, which will also make use of matching funds from the ELCA Fund for Leaders for scholarships to synod-endorsed seminary candidates.
