Lutherans aid Watoto

Carol Rackley of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Westerville, Ohio, and five members of Epiphany Lutheran in Centerville, Ohio, recently worked with the Watoto Program in Uganda.

Watoto (Swahili for children) helps Uganda’s government search for the parents of children affected by AIDS and war.

When parents can’t be found, Watoto officially adopts the children and places them in a home with seven “siblings” and a “mom.”

Watoto enlists the help of widows, who are often forced to leave their houses, to serve as the mothers.
