An Episcopal Church committee voted in late October to oust 52 California clerics who left the denomination last year to join a conservative province in the Anglican Communion.
Forty-two of 47 parishes in the San Joaquin Diocese left the Episcopal Church and joined the Argentina-based Anglican Province of the Southern Cone.
In September, a conservative majority in the Diocese of Pittsburgh also split from the Episcopal Church.
Two more dioceses were poised to make similar moves in November.
