Fair wage for New Orleans-bound

Youth from Christ Lutheran Church, Stockton, Ill., picked grapes at Massbach Ridge Winery to raise money for the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans.

Youth from Christ Lutheran, Stockton, Ill.They worked the field about the time Matthew 20:1-16 (laborers in the vineyard) came around in the lectionary.

Parishioner and vineyard owner Peggy Harmston paid them “a fair day’s wage,” said Arthur Stees, interim pastor.

Gathering registration is only available online and will close Jan. 15 or whenever the 36,000 limit is reached; 33,800 had registered by Nov. 3.
