The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

A Christmas letter

Some endings in '08, beginnings in '09

From the staff of The Lutheran, it is our hope that your Advent preparations will be a blessing and Christmas will ring with the joy of the good news found in Jesus Christ.

This year brought both hope and some uncertainty for the magazine. We sharpened our reporting focus and increased the story count, moves that appear to be well received by readers. We broadened our advertising base, adding new customers to our core group of ELCA institutions such as the Mission Investment Fund, the ELCA Foundation, Board of Pensions, our colleges, universities and seminaries, and a few faithful companies such as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. It’s more than appropriate to offer a collective thanks to our advertisers, as income from them represents 29 percent of the revenue needed to write, edit, print and distribute The Lutheran (the balance comes from subscriptions).
