A place to play with God

Highland Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, recently dedicated “Little Highland”—a quarter size replica created by parishioner Greg Wennes, Spring Grove, Minn.

He did this to honor his grandmother, Ida Kittleson Wennes, who started the Sunday school in 1940. It began as a playhouse for children but has become a place for all ages “to play with God,” Wennes said.

The church measures about 14 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 16 feet tall to the top of the steeple cross. It holds a miniature altar and miniature pulpit, and children can ring a miniature bell.

The pews can seat one-and-a-half adults comfortably.

The exterior siding and shingles match Big Highland.
