Reader to reader: Open to God's healing

In December we asked you to write us about your congregation's healing services ("In Focus: Healing," page 8). Many readers told of the blessings they received from these services and the importance of being open to God's healing. Some cautioned, however, that God does not always answer prayers in the way we want. Here are some excerpts from the 20-plus letters we received.

I find in the [healing] service the most awesome awareness of God's presence. A number of us who attend do not seek physical healing, but the closeness and caring among us is warm and personal--sharing God's word, love and the Lord's Supper in an informal setting. When I go forward with my prayer concerns, the words that pour out for me flood my soul, ease my heartaches and lift my spirit.
