Attacks in Orissa

The Lutheran World Federation and the World Council of Churches asked the government of India to intervene in the religious violence in Orissa, which reportedly began after the Aug. 23 murder of a Hindu spiritual leader.

A.G. Augustine Jeyakumar, executive secretary of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in India , said violence targets Christians, with “fundamentalist groups going from village to village destroying churches, burning houses, attacking and killing Christians.”
