Women's ordination in Bolivia

The Bolivian Evangelical Lutheran Church began ordaining women Sept. 7, with the ceremonies of Erlini Tola Medina and Maritza Ramos Castañeta.

Lutheran World Federation General Secretary Ishmael Noko and Bishop Jessica Crist of the ELCA Montana Synod, a companion partner of the Bolivian church, ordained five men alongside the women.

They authorized 13 other women and men to administer the sacraments and proclaim the word. Noko said 15 of the 16 LWF churches in Latin America and the Caribbean now ordain women.
