China: continued relief after earthquake

After a May 12 earthquake killed more than 70,000, damaged areas like the one above, and left 5 million homeless in China’s southwestern Sichuan province, the ELCA and its partners continued to respond.

A photo of the China earthquake aftermathY. Franklin Ishida, ELCA Global Mission , said that ELCA partner churches in the region are providing comfort and material support, and have seen an increase in worship attendance.

Ishida said the ELCA provided an initial $40,000 for relief efforts by the church in Sichuan Province and is now working on a plan for additional phased relief work.

To help support efforts, send checks (write “China Earthquake” on the memo line) to ELCA International Disaster Response, P.O. Box 71764, Chicago, IL 60694-1764; or give by credit card at 800-638-3522.
