A state-of-the-art medical facility to provide holistic care in Tanzania opens in October, thanks in part to financial support from ELCA members and congregations, the Northern Illinois Synod and others.
The new 150-bed Arusha Lutheran Medical Center, the Selian Lutheran Hospital and its Arusha Town Clinic are facilities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and its Arusha Diocese.
The Northern Illinois Synod is a companion of the diocese.
The $9 million Arusha center will help address a lack of hospital beds in that area and provide specialty services to patients.
