In August, the Deaconess Community of the ELCA and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada awarded $250,000 to 13 nonprofit programs to expand the church’s outreach to those in need.
The grants—from $10,000 to $32,500—included programs in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, California, New York, Alaska, Washington, D.C., Mongolia, South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
They serve the uninsured, disabled, homeless, politically disenfranchised, elderly, at-risk youth and immigrants.
