From China to the Midwest

ELCA leaders and staff visited Luzhou Christian Church in China to see how ELCA contributions are at work following the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province.

But they were in for a surprise. Liao Xin Qin, pastor of Luzhou, presented the ELCA group with an envelope containing the equivalent of $500—contributions from members of that congregation.

The funds were designated for the Midwest floods and will go to Lutheran Disaster Response.

Said Rafael Malpica Padilla, executive director of ELCA Global Mission: “They gave what they didn’t have just to show their solidarity and love to a sister church that has walked with them. In the midst of their need, they heard about ours and responded.”
