The Magazine of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

True to his name

Paul Economy, vice president of a Roanoke, Va., credit union, recently made news with this highway billboard offer: “Come see Paul. He has $50 million to lend.”

Lending has been strong, he said, and a Roanoke Times column about the offer “did pick up the speed.”

The first month of the summer promotion generated “multimillions” in loans, he said.

Economy and others from St. Philip Lutheran Church, Roanoke, are also living out the ELCA motto: God’s work. Our hands.

They recently returned from a mission trip to Malawi.
