Burundi: Help for returnees

More than 40 years of ethnic violence and political strife in Burundi, Africa, followed its 1962 independence from Belgian colonial rule.

Since the country’s 2005 elections, refugees are returning home.

ELCA International Disaster Response sent $75,000 through Action by Churches Together to Lutheran World Federation World Service, which is providing food, medical assistance, shelter and a school for children.

ACT, a global alliance, issues ecumenical funding appeals after emergencies worldwide.
