'Extreme Paintover'

When Terrie L. Sternberg, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski, Va., left for her summer vacation, parishioners showed their appreciation for her with an “Extreme Paint-over.”

In five days 26 volunteers applied 31 gallons of paint to her two-story home and its wraparound porch.

The $2,000 for materials came from 72 members.

“It’s unbelievable, a gift beyond description,” said Sternberg, who had been worrying about the cost of repairs on a limited budget.

Volunteers also installed shutters, repaired gutters, cleaned windows and rebuilt a handrail.
