St. Paul Lutheran Church, Arlington, Mass., celebrated the settling and achievements of 54 “lost children of Sudan” who arrived in Boston the winter of 2000-01 wearing U.N.-issued sweat suits and carrying little more than their identity papers.
The celebration featured remarks from several of the young Sudanese recounting their journey from the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, where they landed after years of near starvation and nomadic wandering, to graduation from U.S. institutions of higher education.
Many are committed to returning to Sudan to help start schools and improve life in their villages.
