Our friends reasoned that if you can fix physical damage with wood and plaster, perhaps you can fix spiritual damage with ritual and faith. Those repairs would take place, they decided, in a service of blessing for their house that would purge the evil. They knew that it would be too big a job for them alone, so they invited neighbors, friends and members of their church to help. We gathered, more than 40 of us, in the back yard of their home one night in early October. Black and white, old and young, friends and strangers-we gathered to help repair the spirit of a home.
