About 600 men from across the ELCA gathered in Omaha, Neb., July 31-Aug. 1 as the Lutheran Men in Mission celebrated its 20th anniversary. The event theme, “Coming of Age,” highlighted the organization’s emphasis on the spirituality of men ages 18 to 34.
Elected president was Norman L. Smith, 69, a parish ministry associate of the Central States Synod specializing in men’s ministry at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Overland Park, Kan.
“We’ve just put together a three-year plan,” Smith said, “and I would like to see that plan come to fruition—starting with training leadership for all men in ministry so we have leaders trained all throughout the U.S.”
