Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service teamed with eight churches in Lincoln, Neb., to sponsor a family from Iraq.
In June, Mahmood and Alaa Alfahad and their two sons arrived in the U.S. by way of Jordan.
The family left Iraq more than two years ago.
Their sponsors set up an apartment for the Alfahads and will help them seek work and settle into the area. Mahmood said he would like to one day become a U.S. citizen.
