Paper cranes for soldiers

The Lutheran Campus Ministry at Columbia University in New York City led a multifaith coalition in making approximately 1,700 paper cranes as part of a nationwide campaign to fold 1,000 cranes for each soldier killed in Iraq.

Organizers Kate McNamara and Sue Yang have held numerous folding events, including one with more than 500 prospective students, and will continue in the fall.

“People would stop by and fold one crane or take paper home and bring [cranes] back,” McNamara said.
