Asian Lutherans meet

More than 180 people gathered April 16-19 at Christ Lutheran Church, Monterey Park, Calif., for the ninth biennial assembly of the ELCA Association of Asian and Pacific Islanders.

This was the group’s largest gathering so far, said Pongsak Limthongviratn, ELCA director for Asian and Pacific Islander ministries.

Ten years ago the ELCA had 50 Asian ministries; now there are more than 100 covering 13 ethnic groups. An assembly banquet honored Edmond Yee, who is retiring as a professor of Pacific Lutheran Seminary, Berkeley, Calif., for his service in the ELCA and a predecessor church body.
