Stimulating a tithe

Church leaders have a suggestion for your economic stimulus check: Tithe it or send the entire check to ministries that help people living in poverty.

The Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod assembly passed a resolution asking members to do just that.

And in an e-mail to rostered leaders, Duane C. Pederson, bishop of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, encouraged tithing stimulus checks to a ministry of the community, synod or ELCA. He asked leaders to urge parishioners to do the same—and to write to newspapers asking other people of faith to do so.
