Church Mutual is new insurer

The ELCA Office of the Secretary announced that Church Mutual Insurance Company is underwriting the ELCA-Endorsed Property and Liability Insurance Program for Congregations and Synods as of April 10. The ELCA’s brokerage representative is Hilb, Rogal & Hobbs.

The move will “provide ELCA congregations and synods with quality insurance protection and enhanced customer service,” the announcement stated.

The ELCA Church Council heard that in seeking ELCA-wide coverage, the ELCA Shared Risk Insurance Task Force initially considered a captive insurance program but found the best option was to go with Church Mutual.

Since 1952, Church Mutual has earned an A+ (Superior) rating from A.M. Best. It insures more than 97,000 religious groups in the U.S., including 3,300 ELCA congregations, the churchwide office, nine regional offices and various synod offices.
