The words of Don Roberts' sermon last November rang with similar emotion and insight of his sermons years before. But the former pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato, Minn., couldn't speak the words himself. Stricken with Lou Gehrig's disease in 1995, Roberts slowly deteriorated before the congregation, who watched helplessly as he continued fighting ALS.
