Grant helps Daily Work cross bridge of unemployment

Habtom Teklay is an East African immigrant who found custodial work at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, thanks to Daily Work, a collaboration of Minneapolis and St. Paul churches that helps the unemployed and underemployed find work ("Daily work," September 2002).

Daily Work is a recipient of “Crossing Bridges-Connecting in Mission” funds from the St. Paul Area Synod (individuals, congregations and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans). The synod has raised $1.3 million toward its $2 million, three-year appeal. Early this year, funds were divided among seminarians, mission starts and organizations such as Daily Work that aim to end poverty, as well as toward health care and education in Iringa.

Clients who come to Daily Work are generally affiliated with Christ Lutheran on Capitol Hill and Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in St. Paul, or Our Savior Lutheran Church, Minneapolis.
