The Lutheran Deaconess Association named Lisa Polito as its new executive director. She succeeds E. Louise Williams, who retired in January.

The organization, based at Valparaiso [Ind.] University, trains and supports deaconesses in the ELCA, the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.

“One of my dreams is to continue our ecumenical and global relationships,” said Polito, who previously served as the group’s director of development and public relations. She said the organization’s inter-Lutheran makeup is a “signpost to other church bodies that we can work and serve together.”
