California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, announced that students admitted for 2008-09 to CLU and either the University of California, Los Angeles, or the University of California, Santa Barbara, can pay a public school price for their private school education. Through the new program, called a CLU Guarantee Scholarship, CLU will match the price of attending the public university. Students could save $60,000 over four years.

Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, inaugurated its first female president, Ann Svennungsen, Feb. 1. Three days of activities, including community-wide service projects, art exhibit and a special lecture by Ray Suarez of PBS’ The NewsHour, culminated in the inauguration ceremony, where ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson officiated. Svennungsen, an ELCA pastor, previously served as president and chief executive officer of The Fund for Theological Education in Atlanta.
