Cell phone users can download ringtones arranged and played by Christopher Nigrelli, associate professor of music at Lenoir-Rhyne College, Hickory, N.C.
Nigrelli, a trombonist, is part of the five-member Charlotte Chamber Brass. After AT&T discovered the group’s Web site, it asked the ensemble to record 45-second ringtones. AT&T doesn’t credit the brass group by name, but Nigelli said it pays them about 5 percent of the $2.49 download cost.
The arrangements include songs for weddings, patriotic tunes and Christmas carols. Nigrelli arranged about half of the Christmas ringtones.
Nigrelli said he’s now considering getting a cell phone “just for the fun of hearing my ringtone.”
