Christians in India, particularly those in isolated rural areas, face a variety of pressures to renounce their faith. Certain extremist groups are actively engaged in "reconverting" Christians to Hinduism. As during other periods of persecution in history, several Christians have left the faith. But the churches haven't been intimidated. The climate of hostility has moved them from passivity to active engagement in political and social movements. Several church leaders are determined to continue a peaceful protest. Moderate Hindus and other religious and political groups have joined them .
