For the first time, the St. Olaf Christmas Festival will be simulcast to 197 commercial movie theaters nationwide on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 at 4 p.m. ET from the St. Olaf College campus in Northfield, Minn. The festival—hymns, carols, choral works and orchestral selections that celebrate Jesus’ birth—is one of the oldest musical Christmas celebrations in the U.S. The event, begun in 1912, features more than 500 student musicians who are members of five of the college’s choirs and its orchestra. Each group will perform individually and as part of a mass ensemble.
* An earlier version of this article (based on information that was available at presstime) indicated that the concert would be simulcast in 80 theaters.

Shirley, did you make it to the theater in Manchester? The show was great.
Kim, they haven't said whether there will be a DVD. You should keep checking the College's website. PBS will broadcast an edited (one hour) version in a few weeks. Most stations are showing it Dec. 19, and many are repeating it closer to Christmas. Check the listings for your local PBS station.
