Booth for a bishop

David R. Strobel (right), bishop of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod, joined the fun and faith celebration when nearly 800 people of all ages from synod congregations gathered for the first ever LIFT (Lutherans in Faith Together) in June.

The one-day event, held at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., featured a walk/run for ELCA World Hunger, music by Bread for the Journey, keynote speaker Bart Campolo, storyteller Tracy Radosevic, more than 30 workshops on a variety of topics, programs for children and teenagers, outdoor games and a music concert every hour in the college chapel.

Historical personalities, including H.M. Muhlenberg, Martin and Katy Luther, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, J.S. Bach—even Davey and Goliath, strolled the campus.

Strobel doled out theological wisdom for 25 cents, with proceeds going to World Hunger.
