Kids care and share

New Jersey congregation emphasizes stewardship projects

At the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Pompton Plains, N.J., members learn they can make a difference in a year-round stewardship program. For the youth, that means “Kids Care ... Kids Share.”

Three-year-olds through second-graders learned to share their gift of talent.

Youth from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Pompton Plains, N.J., get a firsthand look at an ambulance on a Sunday when 199 teddy bears were dedicated and distributed to area first-aid squads. The bears help comfort children experiencing trauma.

Through Color a Smile, a nonprofit that spreads smiles nationwide with art, the children color pictures to send to the elderly in hospitals and nursing homes, to veterans and others. They colored more than 100 pictures during the 2006-07 Sunday school year.

They also made cards for veterans in the congregation and community on Memorial Day; for homebound parishioners on Valentine’s Day; and for veterans and those now serving in the military on Veterans’ Day.
