Holden Village, an ELCA outdoor ministry in Chelan, Wash., was evacuated Aug. 15 to ensure the safety of 180 visitors and staff due to nearby wildfires.
Mark D. Burkhardt, director of ELCA outdoor ministries,
called the evacuation a precautionary measure due to limited access to
the camp. Staffers remained long enough to implement a structure
protection plan for the year-round camp, which attracts more than 7,000
visitors annually.
