• Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma,
Wash., netted about $400,000 from the sale of a donated painting,
“White Night, Buttercups at Jolster,” by Nikolai Astrup. The painting
sold for $525,000 at Sotheby’s London auction house. The funds will go
to the school’s Scandinavian Cultural Center.
• Students receiving $10,000 Rossing Physics Scholarships for the 2007-08 school year are: junior Daniel Endean, St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn.; senior Kent Bodurtha, Augsburg College, Minneapolis; and senior Jake Bennett, Roanoke College, Salem, Va. The fund awarded $3,000 each for academic expenses to senior Brett Anderson, St. Olaf; junior Reid Larson, Augsburg; and junior Andrea Schiefelbein, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. Housed within the ELCA Foundation, the Rossing Fund for Physics Education was started with gifts from Thomas D. Rossing, a professor at Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, who previously taught at St. Olaf.
