Audiologist Melissa Inniss (right) tests the hearing of a girl in Tela, Honduras, during a medical mission by Lutheran HealthCare, Brooklyn, N.Y. She is one of 14 staff members of the community health-care network who participated in the volunteer effort, which provided examinations for 212 children and adults and 28 surgical procedures. The group also raised $5,000 for medical supplies. The connection between the health-care network in Brooklyn, home to many immigrants from Tela, began in 1999. Since then staff have made 11 trips to Honduras, where most people can’t afford basic health care.
