See Van go

T. Van Matthews (right) of Simpsonville, S.C., a trustee for the ELCA Board of Pensions, plans to bike from St. Charles, Mo., to Minneapolis along the Mississippi River to raise awareness of the ELCA Special Needs Retirement Fund. The fund provides extra income to retired pastors, rostered lay people and surviving spouses with the greatest financial need.

“I’m completing my six-year term as a trustee this fall and want to thank this church for the opportunity to serve,” he said. “By riding my bike through these communities, I can personally reach out to people about supporting the Special Needs Retirement Fund as well as encourage living well through increased physical activity.”

Matthews will ride July 20-Aug. 1, camping overnight at ELCA churches. Contact him by email if you know of safe routes or if you want to bike part of the way.
