A 1998 study revealed six "broad umbrella" approaches or "models" of confirmation ministry currently in use in ELCA congregations, says Diane Monroe, ELCA associate director for youth education and confirmation. The lines between these models aren't hard and fast. Many congregations reflect a combination of these types.
