Lutheran Campus Ministry celebrates its
centennial this year, and it’s more than just commemorating the past,
said Sue Rothmeyer, director for ELCA campus ministry.
“We also want to look at the future and how we can minister amid the
challenges and opportunities that will be present on campuses in the
years to come,” she said.
LCM began in 1907 when Howard Gold was called to the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Ministry to students occurred before then, Rothmeyer said, “but we
acknowledge LCM’s formal beginning as 1907 when the Lutheran church
first called a full-time pastor to minister specifically to Lutheran
students.”
