Jerri Johnson enjoys her moniker, “Pop Tab Queen,” but, more than that, she is thrilled with what that title means.
Johnson, a member of Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church,
Riverdale, Ga., became obsessed with collecting the tabs on top of soda
cans the day she learned that the little pieces of aluminum can be
donated to one of the Ronald McDonald Houses that participate in the Pop Tab Collection Program.
The
houses provide a temporary “home away from home” for ill children and
their families while the child receives treatment at a nearby medical
facility. One of the ways nearly all of the facilities raise money is
by recycling pop tabs. While it may not sound like much, this recycling
program has brought in $4 million since 1987.
