Voting members elected Eaton during a special Dec. 2 synod assembly, on the fifth ballot, 281-230, over David P. Anderson, a pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church
, Medina, Ohio.
At the time of her election, Eaton was serving as pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church
, Ashtabula, Ohio. A graduate of Harvard Divinity School
, Cambridge, Mass, she previously served All Saints Lutheran Church
, Worthington, Ohio, and Good Hope Lutheran Church
, Youngstown, Ohio. She was elected in 2005 to the ELCA Church Council.
She replaces Marcus Miller, who began a call Aug. 15 as president of Lutheran Southern Seminary
in Columbia, S.C.
