Elizabeth Eaton, 51, was elected bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod, effective Feb. 1.

Voting members elected Eaton during a special Dec. 2 synod assembly, on the fifth ballot, 281-230, over David P. Anderson, a pastor of
St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Medina, Ohio.
At the time of her election, Eaton was serving as pastor of
Messiah Lutheran Church, Ashtabula, Ohio. A graduate of
Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Mass, she previously served
All Saints Lutheran Church, Worthington, Ohio, and
Good Hope Lutheran Church, Youngstown, Ohio. She was elected in 2005 to the ELCA Church Council.
She replaces Marcus Miller, who began a call Aug. 15 as president of
Lutheran Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C.
