ELCA supports soup kitchen

Jeanette LaHaber (right) and an unidentified woman wash dishes at Les Restaurants du Coeur, a soup kitchen in Beirut, Lebanon, that serves more than 600,000 meals a year for elderly and displaced people, especially those who fled south Lebanon during the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah (see "Praying for strength").

Les Restaurants du Coeur also provides 700 sandwiches to children at two Beirut schools daily and periodically distributes food gifts from international embassies, underwear and medicines for those with chronic diseases.

The ELCA supports Les Restaurants du Coeur through Action by Churches Together and the Middle East Council of Churches.
