As the ELCA Global Mission regional
representatives for South America, we work closely with four Lutheran
churches in five countries: Argentina and Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile and
Peru. We also relate to several institutions, including seminaries in
these countries.
The ELCA mission strategy for Latin
America calls us to “walk together [with our companions] in a
solidarity that practices interdependence and mutuality.” We sit with
leadership of our companions and listen to their vision, strengths,
weaknesses and opportunities. Together we plan how the ELCA can best
accompany them—first through relationships and then resources if
possible. The ELCA directs resources toward strengthening our
companions’ capacities in church growth, leadership development, peace
and reconciliation, and sustainable development.
