Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran, Schapville, Ill., moved its 120-year-old church to a site a half mile away in July. Now on an 11-acre plot in Scales Mound, Ill., the church overlooks scenic Jo Daviess County on the border of Wisconsin and Iowa.
“It was cheaper to move than to build new,” said Barbara Rapp, pastor. An 18-foot wide addition will run the length of the church, providing access to disabled people, updated restrooms and kitchen, and special-event room. Until the $400,000 project is completed around Thanksgiving, the congregation worships in a nearby school.
