Sonia C. Solomonson became managing editor of The Lutheran April 1. She has been part of the magazine's staff since 1988, most recently as senior editor of the "Our Church at Work" section. "We are fortunate to have someone with Sonia's skills and experience for this position," said Edgar R. Trexler, editor, "especially in providing continuity for the magazine's leadership." She succeeds Roger R. Kahle who died Dec. 1. A former missionary to Papua New Guinea, Solomonson holds a journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin — Eau Claire. She held several positions prior to coming to The Lutheran, including being part of the communications office for the former American Lutheran Church. She is the first woman to serve as managing editor of The Lutheran in the ELCA or its predecessor bodies.

I found it astonishing that .002% of the ELCA's baptized membership in Aseembly overturned 2000 years of the Christian church's consensus on homosexual practice! It seems that such a vote should have been congregation by congregation, thus more democratic.
